The Upside Down

In the alien, alienation must be at its maximum. Think of the most dejected state, that must be closer to the alien than the highest. 

Unlike the transcendent Other, an encounter with which can lead to redemption and transformation, to reflect on the alien is to look in a dark mirror, where only the lunatics and psycho-social rejects may be looking back at you. The alien is more cognate with the abyss than the zenith of experience. 

The mountain Roy Neary climbs is inverted. Why did the aliens rename Strieber's original book title ("body terror") as "Communion" if not to point to all this inversion as being key? The alien is like an anti-religion or anti-revelation, without being devilish as such, which is human. 

It's a thin line to walk, hence the secret has been kept, for a select few to tread carefully".

A Christological Joke

It strikes me that the Roswell crash is a philosophical allegory.

We are, you see, randomly thrown into the world and captured by a system (Heidegger/Althusser). As a result we do not have a culture of open meeting and encounter (as Levinas might want). Earth, it is Roswell. You are looking at a mirror of how we all live.

The question seems to be how we can elevate our society. So it ceases to be a random trap, and becomes instead a world where open, free, and conscious meeting is the norm. As above, so below. Roswell is for now a mirror of the human predicament in which we are the crashed and captured beings. You meet that by crashing and being captured.

That is either polite or a joke. We get, it seems, the UFO encounters we deserve.

Curiously Roswell means the place where a horse is led to water, recalling the famous proverb. You can lead the horse, but it may not drink. That looks like a pun on the Eucharist. Perhaps the alien has not only technological mastery, but a deep understanding of our cultural flaws and windows.

Soft Landing

Here is an interesting piece of local knowledge. It is on a UFO sighting reported to Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence.

This shows that a whole other history is available to us.

Regarding the continuity of UFO sightings over time, I have recently wondered if that is not a cushioning strategy? A sudden appearance of UFO reality might lead us to abandon our past. As it is, a re-investigation and re-reading of history will be possible instead.

Evidence shows this could run as far back - per the ancient alien hypothesis - as antiquity, even prehistory. The phenomenon exists at the periphery of our oversight, to minimise the sense of loss and ontological shock we might experience. Prior history will not be rendered meaningless, but continuous in a new reading.

It would be like the way the Christians reference the Old Testament afresh. The book is not rendered obsolete by the new believers, but re-interpreted and made relevant in a new way. Subtexts are brought to the surface and explained.

In that sense the UFO phenomenon is currently an unread subtext awaiting exposition.

UFO Alignment

Thinking about how difficult it was for the world of the church and politics to handle Galileo's insights, I think we have to be realistic about similar difficulties confronting us when it comes to UFO truth. Who knows how challenging to the current organisation of life the revelations might be? How vexatious and disputed?

The cliched example is free energy. If fossil fuel and energy poverty could be switched off overnight, how destabilising would that be to vested interests yes, but also to geopolitics, the balance of power, and ordinary life too? The revelations might be more unsettling even than that. What if materialism itself is false, or our understanding of the afterlife? Science would falter and many political ideologies that depend on a materialist view. Maybe the church would see an opportunity for temporary ascendance; but if Christ was an alien what then? Would there be a final adjudication between Judaism and Islam?

We need, I feel, to get away from a good and evil view of truth vs the conspiracy and think more in terms of strategy. What is the insider's strategy (which might in part be benign) and what is ours on the outside (which might in part be malign)? Can those two strategies ever meet? And how? Let us think in terms of a UFO alignment rather than of disclosure simply. An alignment where the different interests can come together.

Let us as seekers of truth also think more about how the world could prepare for startling ideas. Ideas that might dismantle such oppositions as right and left, even of hierarchy and up and down, are not to be handled lightly and need thought. Let us show willing to make the task of disclosure easier, by becoming aligned philosophers, poets, and artists! 

The House of Plague

The UN has suggested that the Epstein case may represent a crime against humanity. This is getting a bit of buzz on the UFO circuit, because of obvious similarities with UFO disclosure.

Should it be revealed there have been 80 years of deception and manipulation around the nature of life and our place in the universe, and maybe strategies to suppress technology, would it be a crime, and how should supervising authorities respond? It is a question that might find precedent in Epstein. That's helpful, given how ill-thought out and unprepared the legal territory would be.

There were similar thoughts during the pandemic. Might the politics and legitimacy of institutions under such difficult circumstances mirror an ET contact scenario? This essay, from the era of Covid-19, also looks at problems for SETI and Democracy.

Sadly, for something as possibly uplifting as extraterrestrial contact and the discovery we are not alone, we have to look at the annals of crime and disease for a map.
